Volunteers must arrange their own travel to and from Nangi, but former volunteers can offer a number of tips on what to bring and to prepare for the experience.
Potential volunteers have two options to apply for the program:
College Credit Program
The program will provide options for participants to earn credits in areas such as international development, social service, nature conservation, teaching, anthropology and public health. One credit hour can be earned for each week of participation, up to a maximum of 6 semester credit hours.
This is an independent and self-directed learning project. Participants will be required to submit a journal about their activities. Extra credit can be earned through independent studies, provided that students produce a research paper about one aspect of what they learned in the village. All journals and papers must be submitted to the Office of International Education Office, University of Nebraska at Kearney. Applicants for credit will still need to submit an application form and fees to HEF. Here is the link to the application form.
For those who want to earn transferable under-graduate college credit from the University of Nebraska at Kearney, contact:

Non-Credit Program
The non-credit program is designed to offer opportunities for those people from different walks of life other than academics.
For those who do not want to earn college credit, click here to download an application form. Submit the form and a CV to Dr Leonard Skov and Dr. Debra Stoner. Your application will be reviewed within 30 days and you will be notified if you are accepted. Accepted applicants must mail a signed copy of the form and the appropriate application fees (see http://www.himanchal.org/volunteer-cost-travel-tips for details of fees) within 30 days of acceptance to:
Himanchal Educational Foundation
c/o Dr. Leonard Skov,

The primary purpose of the application process is to help select volunteers whose skills and experiences will be helpful in the village and whose goals for their time in Nepal can be met through the activities available. All participants must pay a fee of $100 when submitting the application form to defray administrative costs.
